NHL Learn to Play : Ages 4-10

NHL Learn to Play with the Colorado Avalanche is an exciting opportunity for kids ages 4–10 to try hockey in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. In partnership with USA Hockey, this program introduces beginners to skating, puck handling, and teamwork—often with loaner gear or deeply discounted equipment. Led by trained instructors, it builds confidence, friendships, and a love for the game.

Avalanche Learn to Play Program

Try Hockey Free : Ages 4-10

USA Hockey’s Try Hockey for Free lets kids ages 4–10 experience hockey at no cost. Designed for first-time players, sessions include loaner gear (as available) and coaching to teach skating and puck handling in a fun, no-pressure setting.

For 2025–26, events will be held September 13, 2025, and March 7, 2026.

Adaptive Hockey

Colorado is proud to support inclusive hockey programs that provide opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. Whether you're interested in sled hockey, developmental programs, or specialized team formats, adaptive hockey opens the door for everyone to experience the game.

Two of Colorado’s leading adaptive programs include:

  • Colorado Sled Hockey – Offering competitive and recreational sled hockey programs for youth and adults with physical disabilities.
  • Denver Mustangs – Providing hockey opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in a fun, supportive environment.

11+ Learn to Play Youth Hockey

New to Hockey and between the ages of 11–18?


It’s never too late to start playing! Whether you’re interested in recreational, girls, or high school hockey, there’s a place for you to get on the ice and join the fun. Visit the Rec Hockey, Girls Hockey, or High School Hockey pages to find local associations and programs in your area.
